I had to write this.
Today, at recess, I saw young Landon, a fellow ASD kid, getting hassled by some of his peers. I stepped in, but this isn't the first time it's happened, and it leads me to wonder...
It's probably the F***ING STUPID age we live in, which I herald only for its technological and creative advances.
Think about it. Look around the next time you go out anywhere moderately urban.
. Then ask yourself, "Is the brilliant, charming, and excruciatingly handsome Daniel correct?"
If you have children about 5 years old who are either bullied or bullying at school, you know exactly what I mean.

Sadly, there was never any innocence. We're just all that more aware of the cruelty now, since it gets amplified by technology.

Horrible - bullying of anyone, young or old, school or workplace, ASD or other, is horrible, oh brilliant, charming, excruciatingly handsome Daniel. You're right.
ReplyDeleteBut before we kill all the tech, there may be other reasons too. Like it bothers us more than it used to. So , we no longer say "oh, a bit of bullying's good for kids' characters'.
Also, want to know something vaguely surprising? There's probably less violence around now than there used to be: google 'pinker decline of violence'. Odd, eh?
Pinker's book is powerful.
